Prince Julep

Serves 1

This is a great cocktail I re-created from the Hotel U Prince in Prague, which has the best outdoor patio on the Square and on their rooftop.  This is a refreshing twist on the classic mint julep using the national spirit of the Czech Republic, Becherovka, which provides a floral and herbal nose with hints of cinnamon and ginger.

Ingredients:

  • Becherovka

  • Ginger Ale

  • Angostura Bitters

  • Ginger

  • Mint

  • Crushed Ice

Kick the Mint Julep upside down with this fragrant version from the Czech Republic.  Becherovka is a national spirit in the Czech Republic providing a floral nose with hints of cinnamon and ginger.

In the bottom of the glass, place 3-4 sprigs of mint (stems removed) with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and 2oz of Becherovka and muddle together. Add 2oz of ginger ale, stir and then add crushed ice to fill the glass.  The ice should mound above the liquid.  On top of the ice mound, pour a few dashes of Angostura Bitters.  Garnish with a shard of ginger and a sprig of mint.

To enjoy, use the shard of ginger to still all ingredients in the glass until you have a beautiful cinnamon color cocktail.
